Reach 16,000 Scholastic Sports Referees and Umpires with Texas Association of Sports Officials
Members include thousands of current and former high-school and middle-school sports officials — referees, umpires, and other game officials working football, basketball, baseball, soccer, softball, volleyball and more — across more than 150 local chapters statewide. They’re typically employed (or contracted) by public and private school athletic associations, including districts governed by University Interscholastic League (UIL) and Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS). Texas Association of Sports Officials (TASO) represents over 16,000 sports officials across more than 160 local chapters all over Texas. Founded in 1977 (originally as the Southwest Officials Association), it supports high‑school and middle‑school referees/umpires in sports including football, basketball, baseball, soccer, softball, volleyball and more. TASO provides training, insurance, advocacy for fair pay and working conditions, and ensures a consistent supply of qualified officials for scholastic athletics — making it a powerful and unified channel to reach a dedicated, statewide community of sports officiating professionals.
